Black Country in Motion

Black Country in Motion is a pilot Sport England funded 3 year project which challenges the barriers that communities, age 14+ across the Black Country have to participating in sport and physical activity.

In delivering the project, we have the vision of "Sport for the Community, by the Community"

Exercise to Music LadiesThe research we commissioned by Coventry University gave us our initial findings for delivery of the project.  The research has told us that the current sport and physical activity offer didn't appeal to our communities, so we are aiming to do something different to engage people in sport and physical activity.  If you would like to find out more about the research, click here.

With our partners for the programme, we have identified 8 zones across the Black Country, where activity will be taking place.

These 8 zones are:

Locality Health Sport Zones
Dudley Castle and Priory
Netherton and Woodside
Sandwell Smethwick
Tipton Green
Walsall Blakenall
Bentley and Darlaston North
Wolverhampton East Park
Bilston East

Following the research our 2 Activators went into each of the 8 zones to really try and understand what the local communities wanted to do.  Following that, we have developed a programme activities for people to take part in.

If you are a resident or organisation in one of the above communities, we would be really keen to hear what you would like to do.  Please get in touch with one of our Activators to express your interest:

Rachel Smith on 07532 411166 or email
Ben Davies-Thompson on 07833 051048 or email

All sessions are either FREE or  LOW COST - so get in touch!

The project is part of a PhD Research Study being delivered by the University of Wolverhampton.

Our key partners in delivering the programme are Dudley MBC, Sandwell MBC, Walsall MBC, Wolverhampton City Council, the University of Wolverhampton and Wolves Community Trust.
